The existence of a church on this site was first documented in 1285, although there may have been a place of worship here even earlier than that. It has therefore served the citizens of Hull for over 700 years and maybe even longer.
By an Act of Parliament in 1662, Charles II declared that the church should have its own parish, when it became known as the Most Holy and Undivided Trinity. The building is recognised as one of the largest parish churches in England.
On 13th May 2017 the Archbishop of York, Archbishop Dr John Sentamu, declared Holy Trinity a Minster.
Minsters are centres of worship, mission and Christian service within the communities they serve and are generally large churches in towns or cities. The church seeks to be a house of prayer in the heart of Hull for all to worship, explore, belong and enjoy.
