We have a rich and fascinating heritage. Prayer and worship have been offered to God on this site for over twelve hundred years. As Leeds grows and changes, we aim to grow with it and to serve the community.

We hope that you will visit, enjoy the spectacle of the Minster, and rest for a while in the stillness of this unique house of prayer. Leeds Minster is normally open for visits 11.00am-2.00pm Tuesday-Saturday, where our friendly team of volunteers will be waiting to welcome you. When you enter Leeds Minster, you are treading a very well-worn path. This is probably the fourth church on this site, the first being built in the seventh century.

The present magnificent church was consecrated in 1841 and at that time was the largest new church erected in England since St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The rebuilding was a project led by the energetic vicar, Dr W. F. Hook, widely seen as the country’s greatest parish priest of the nineteenth century. You can see his tomb in the north-east corner (to the left of the high altar).

Hook’s vision was of a ministry that combined dignified and inspiring worship in Church, with committed social and evangelical work amongst the communities who lived nearby.

All are welcome to visit the Minster, or join us for worship. Our regular services include prayer, readings, music, sermons and hymns which all draw on the wisdom of those who have gone before us. You can find all our worship times and details at leedsminster.org
