Little Summerhill Cottages is a small development of three converted barns.
Situated off the beaten track in the Staffordshire Moorlands yet only 1 mile from the A52 between Alton Towers and Stoke on Trent, Little Summerhill Holiday Cottages are well equipped, one or two bedroomed cottages offering a cosy, relaxing break or an interesting base for exploring the area’s many attractions.
Nestled by the lane on our smallholding they offer private parking, lawns to front and side and seating areas to enjoy the view over open farmland, our farmyard and our spectacular sunsets.
Depending on the season there may be cows to calve or hay to make so some times will be busier than others. We also have pure bred hens who provide fertile eggs for sale throughout Europe and beyond but we’re lucky if there are any to spare for the cottages!!
Whether you want to relax and watch the wildlife, want to explore all our area has to offer or are in the area on business and need a comfortable, convenient place to stay we will do our best to help you enjoy your stay.

Cottages
Beech Cottage
Beech Cottage was the first of our barns to be converted and comprises a kitchen/dining area/lounge, spacious bathroom and double bedroom. It has been likened to the Tardis, as it is bigger inside than it looks!
All on one level and accessible to most wheelchairs with a portable ramp, it has underfloor heating and tiled floors throughout making it warm and cosy in the winter but cool in the summer. An electric stove provides instant heat or a warm glow if needed.
The kitchen is well equipped with electric oven, ceramic hob, extractor hood, fridge freezer, washer/dryer, microwave oven,dishwasher, toaster,kettle, iron and ironing board. There is sufficient crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils to allow for entertaining if you wish.
The butterfly dining table seats four comfortably but can be folded away for convenience.
There is a large, comfortable, leather corner seating unit to relax on and watch the digital TV and DVD player.
There is a selection of reading material, DVD’s and games available for your enjoyment.
The double bedroom has its own thermostat so that the temperature can be controlled separately to the rest of the cottage.
The spacious bathroom has an over the bath shower and heated towel rail.
Your safety is important to us so the cottage is fitted with first aid kit, smoke alarm, fire blanket and extinguisher and emergency exit windows which we hope will never be used.
All windows except the bathroom have views over open farmland and you may be lucky enough to see pheasant, lapwings, hawks, little owls, foxes and red kites.
Outside there are table, chairs, lawns to front and side and a seats to relax and enjoy the view or watch the walkers and horseriders passing by.
During the summer some of our pedigree Limousin cattle and calves will be out in the fields but they can be rather nosy and boisterous so visitors are advised not to enter the fields. For this reason we cannot accept pets or children, although we do have a travel cot available for babies.

Chestnut Cottage
Chestnut Cottage is the second of our barns to be converted and according to our guests, it definitely has the wow! factor.
All on one level, the ground floor comprises kitchen/dining area/lounge, spacious wetroom and double bedroom.There is underfloor heating and tiled floors throughout making it warm and cosy in the winter but cool in the summer. An electric wall mounted fire provides instant heat or a warm glow if needed and there are thermostats in each room so that different temperatures can be maintained in different rooms.
The modern, well equipped kitchen has an electric oven, ceramic hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave oven, toaster,washing machine/dryer and perching stool if requested.
The comfy leather corner unit seats four easily, as does the butterfly table. The TV has Freeview and built in DVD player and there is a wide selection of tourist information.
The double bedroom is accessible to wheelchairs and has a seat with fixed arms which can be placed where required.
The wetroom has a large shower area and a shower chair and toilet riser can be provided on request.
Upstairs the twin bedded gallery bedroom also has two pull out guest beds, Chesterfield settees and its own seating area with TV, Freeview and DVD player. This makes the cottage particularly suitable for two couples holidaying together or a disabled person and carer who may want their own space. or independence. This room has a radiator so that temperature can be controlled separately.

Outside there is a patio area with outdoor seating and designated parking space 10 metres from the door. Access is via seven steps or a ramp which gives wheelchair access to both Chestnut and Oak Cottage.

Oak Cottage
Oak Cottage is the last of our barns to be converted and we hope we have learned from the experience of converting the other two.
All on one level downstairs it has underfloor heating and tiled floors making it warm and cosy in the winter but cool in the summer. An electric stove provides instant heat or a warm glow if needed.
The kitchen comprises dishwasher, washer/dryer,fridge, freezer, electric oven and ceramic hob with extractor hood and very well equipped cupboards.
The lounge has a comfy leather corner settee from which you can watch the wall mounted TV/DVD player.
The dining area is larger in this cottage with oak furnishings and extendable table.
The downstairs double bedroom also has oak furnishings and ensuite shower room.
Upstairs the galleried twin room is larger than in Chestnut Cottage and has it’s own ensuite bathroom, built in wardrobe and cupboards, oak furnishings, comfy settee and TV/DVD player. There is also a chair bed if needed.
The staircase in this room is more enclosed but this must be taken into account when assessing its suitability for children.

Leather corner units provide ample seating from which to relax and enjoy the digital TV’s with Freeview and DVD players, selection of games and books or peruse the huge variety of information on things to do in the area.
In Beech and Chestnut Cottages butterfly dining tables seat four but can be folded away for your convenience whilst Oak Cottage has a solid oak, extendable table with leather chairs.
The kitchens are well equipped with dishawasher, elecric ovens, gas or ceramic hobs, fridges, freezers , wash/dryers, microwave ovens, toasters, irons and ironingboards. There is sufficient crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils to allow for entertaining if you wish.

Bedrooms
The comfortable beds have co-ordinated linen, bedside tables and lamps and clock radios. The wardrobes and dressing table units have ample hanging, shelf and drawer space with separate lamps and power supply.
The gallery bedrooms in Chestnut and Oak Cottages also have their own seating area with comfy settees, TV, Freeview and DVD player.
Bedlinen and towels are included in the price.
Bathroom
The bathroom in Beech Cottage has an over the bath shower and screen, heated towel rail, shaver point and extendable mirror.
Wetroom
The wetroom in Chestnut Cottage has a large shower area suitable for wheelchair users and we can provide a shower chair and toilet riser on request.
There is a heated towel rail, shaver point, extendable and full length mirrors.
Ensuites
In Oak Cottage there is an ensuite shower room downstairs and an ensuite bathroom upstairs, both with heated towel rails, shaver points and shaving mirrors.
Booking
Our cottages are available all the year round, including Christmas and the New Year.
The minimum stay is usually three nights but we are very flexible on both duration and start day for your visit. We do however request that you do not arrive before 4pm as we may not be ready to receive you. This may be flexible however if we know in advance.
Please leave yourselves sufficient time at the end of your stay to strip beds, bag laundry and clear cottages of rubbish, placing it in the appropriate bin or incinerator.
