Telford Steam Railway

Telford Steam Railway (TSR) operates over part of the former Wellington to Craven Arms railway line. For most of its working life the line was operated by the Great Western Railway and the Western Region of British Railways until passenger services ended on 23 July 1962.

TSR has been providing heritage rail travel since 1984. We operate on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from Easter until the end of September. Our trains are hauled by heritage steam or diesel locomotives.

Free parking is available at our Spring Village station (TF4 2NF), where the first departure is at 11am. You do not need to prebook, just turn up and pay once to ride all day!

Trains leave Spring Village for a journey of about a mile (in total) up a steep gradient and through Heath Hill tunnel to Lawley station. After a short stop, the train leaves to travel to Horsehay and Dawley station. Here, our Furnaces Tearoom (serving hot and cold drinks and snacks) and a large model railway exhibition can be visited. Passengers can then re-join the train to return to Spring Village.

In addition to our standard gauge running line, TSR also operates a narrow-gauge steam tram over a circuit of track adjacent to Horsehay Pool.

The Phoenix Model Engineering Society also operates its 5-inch miniature railway at our Spring Village site (additional charges apply).

We have many special events planned throughout the operating season. There is something for everyone whether you are a train enthusiast, or a young family looking for a great value day out.

We also run our very popular Polar Express trains on selected dates in November and December. This is a magical experience for all the family and as such, tickets tend to sell out quickly.
