Since the centre's creation in 1991, it has provided the public a glimpse into the sport of falconry as well as an insight to various birds of prey. However, the centre's primary goal is to assist the re-population of birds of prey around the world. The centre is part of a world wide breeding and conservation programme that hopes that one day, all of the species can be safe in their natural habitats around the world.

The centre's layout is designed so that the main complex only takes up a minimal of land, allowing the centre's falconers room to exercise and train the birds.

The facilities for the birds of prey at the centre include:
Main Aviary
Hospital and treatment
Quarantine Zone
Open Resting Ground
Cave dwellings, for shelter and external static displays
Breeding hut, located at distance from all other structures

The facilities for visitors include:
Main Arena, for demonstrations and courses
Reception and Admissions
Mrs Feather's Tearoom
Henry's Hedgehog Playground
Lecture Room for Educational Tours

 How Stean Gorge

 Sample Image

How Stean is a spectacular limestone gorge, situated in an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty,  in the very heart of Nidderdale among lush green pastures. Known as 'Yorkshire's Little Switzerland'  to the Victorians, the Gorge is crossed by narrow bridges between the rocky paths that lead down and across the rock face. The scenery is breathtaking, and the beck that runs through the Gorge can be anything from a gentle stream to a raging gushing torrent - depending on the rainfall and time of year.
