Located opposite the village of Blacktoft, on the Humber Estuary, Blacktoft Sands RSPB Reserve comprises over 200 hectares of tidal reedbed, protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. This exceptionally diverse habitat provides an excellent opportunity to see a wide range of birds and other wildlife all year round, as well as a scenic location for a family day out. During spring and summer months, there are chances to see and hear the booming bitterns, up to eight species of warbler, and the fantastic aerial displays of marsh harriers. Besides this, there are numerous rare species of plants and insects in this unique, carefully conserved environment. Later in the year, many migrating wading birds can be seen on the reserve, as well regular species, such as the bearded tit, for which Blacktoft Sands has become renowned. Throughout the year, guided walks and activity days provide a great chance to find out more, as well as benefit from the specialist knowledge of RSPB staff. Useful Information: · Opening hours are 9am to 9pm or dusk, daily. The Reception hide closes at 5pm. The reserve is open all year round, except for Christmas day. · Entrance charges for non-members: Adults £3, Under 16s £1, Family £6, Concessions £2 · Five of six observation hides and reception are accessible to wheelchair users, as well as a picnic area, toilets and carpark. · Please refrain from bringing dogs, to avoid disturbance of wildlife.
