ImageSir John Constable began building this magnificent country house in the mid-16th century and it is still the home of the Constable family.

During the 18th century, William Constable (1721-91) made extensive alterations to the building and was also responsible for re-designing interiors and bringing together many of the collections.
With unrivalled access to more than 30 rooms, visitors are offered a unique insight into the patronage of successive generations of the Constable family.

The historic collections include fine furniture, paintings and sculpture, prints and drawings, sporting guns and a library of over 5,000 books. William Constable’s 18th century ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ is the most important scientific collection from the period surviving in any country house and includes scientific instruments, shells, fossils and minerals, together with extraordinary objects and rare specimens from around the globe.

The House and Grounds will be open in 208 from Saturday 22 March - Sunday 26 October, as well as Christmas Opening Saturday 22 November - Sunday 7 December.

There are various major events planned for 2008 including : a Classic Car Rally on Sunday 1 June, the Country Fair on Sunday 13 July and Halloween Ghost Tours on Friday 31 October.
