The Sheffield Folk Festival (held each October) is blossoming. The 2006 festival was headlined by leading folk acts Spiers & Boden, Jez Lowe & The Bad Pennies, Steve Tilston and Last Night’s Fun, and the bill was augmented by acts from the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland. Special attention, as in previous years, was given to acts that come out of Sheffield’s lively folk scene, and both local and national morris and traditional dance sides were also represented in the Festival Saturday’s dance events. The festival was based around the Kelham Island Museum, and its surrounding pubs, as well as other venues such as St Phillips Social Club, which acted as a home for the dance events and smaller concerts. Sheffield Folk Festival is a fantastic opportunity to experience traditional music in the heart of one of Yorkshire’s finest cities. To find out more see the website www.sheffieldfolkfestival.org
