Whether you are looking for a fun family day out, a chance to learn about everything from Romans to Regency, a peaceful stroll through nature or just a nice cup of tea and a cake Worcestershire County Museum, housed in historic Hartlebury Castle, has it all. Recent changes at Hartlebury Castle include the installation of an external glass lift that will enable all visitors to see the Museum galleries on every floor. The new café is now open in the historic Castle Kitchen and a new visitor reception area has been opened in the old stable block. This building also houses the museum shop, incorporating a permanent display by the Worcestershire Guild of Designer Craftsman. Hartlebury Castle, near Kidderminster, has been home to the Bishops of Worcester for over 1000 years. Visitors to Hartlebury can still see the Bishop’s State Rooms, the historic 14th century Great Hall and the Saloon. Exploring the servants wing of the Castle you will find the fascinating and varied collections of the Worcestershire County Museum including toys, domestic items, beautiful costume and ancient archaeological finds. Visitors can also explore room sets such as the Schoolroom, Nursery, Victorian and Georgian rooms. Within the grounds of the Castle you will find the Cider Mill a nature reserve, picnic areas and the Transport Gallery which houses a large collection of Gypsy caravans. Hartlebury Castle offers a varied events programme, providing fun and informative days out for all the family, including historical re-enactments, arts & crafts workshops, Christmas weekends and many more. This year's features are a special exhibition "No Coward Soul" celebrating the life and work of Emily Brontë the author of Wuthering Heights and a redisplay of Branwell Brontë's paintings. The exhibition will be the first time all of the Society's Emily collection has been on display together. |
