ImageThe Transport Museum, Wythall, is situated in north Worcestershire, just to the south of Birmingham. We have extensive collections of buses, battery electric vehicles and a miniature steam railway which operates on our special operating days.

Having spent the 1980s developing the site to protect the growing vehicle collection and the 1990s consolidating that collection, the new century has seen the museum securing the long-term future. To this end, Registered Museum status has been gained and the freehold of the site obtained - a most important and reassuring step forward.

Work is now returning to the building stock. This is partly due to the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act; the Museum recently had a Disability Audit undertaken to ensure it was aware of all the Act's requirements.

The constant improvement of the collection means more vehicles now need to be kept inside than we have room for. We have completed the construction of a large spares building to avoid spares being spread all around the site.

In July 2005 the Musuem was awarded just over £900,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the construction of a new vehicle hall. This project was completed in May 2007.

The Museum is open to casual visitors each weekend between march and the end of November from 11 am to 4.30pm (plus Wednesdays afternoons May to August).

Throughout the year there are themed Event Days when museum buses offer rides, a delightful ride-on miniature steam railway operates and the cafetria and shop are open, the latter selling  transport models, books, magazines and videos.
