Arley Arboretum

E-mail
ImageThis jewel in Worcestershire’s crown, well worth straying over the border from Herefordshire,  was, until two years ago , opened only occasionally to the public. It is possibly one of the oldest privately owned arboretums in the country.

It is a haven of peace and tranquillity and overlooks the banks of the River Severn close to the picturesque village of Upper Arley.

Approached through rolling parkland, entrance is made through a listed Walled Garden which contains an Italianate Garden, raised beds, orchard, herbaceous borders, ornamental fowl, picnic area, plant sales and tea room.  With planting commencing in 1820 by Lord Mountnorris, it is now a mature and majestic Arboretum with awe-inspiring trees (some of which are record breaking and include the tallest Crimean Pine in Britain) underplanted with rhododendrons, azaeleas and camellias and 1000’s of spring flowering bulbs, together with a delightful Magnolia Walk.

The Arboretum Tea Room provides hot and cold refreshments, light snacks and home made cakes.
