In 2003, it changed hands, and the new owner John Rushbrook, set about creating a new dining concept for this village pub. A confirmed Francophile, John decided to create “a little taste of France in a country Inn”, and so ‘Bistro Le Coq’ came into existence. With the help of French Chef, Bertrand Le Clercq, they created a range of classic French Bistro menus, which incorporate many southern French specialities not found elsewhere, either locally or nationally. Current Head Chef, Will Dean, has enhaced the menu's further, with an emphasis on local produce. Whilst our menus feature dishes from other parts of France, much of the inspiration for our food is drawn from the sun drenched South, where traditionally, the cooking also draws influences from the cuisines of its Mediterranean neighbours, of Spain, Italy, and the former French colonies of North Africa and the middle East.. Colourful fruit, and vegetables, olive oil, herbs, and spices, are all used to bring out the best from grilled meat, fish and poultry dishes. Fresh salads, cured meats, ewes and goats milk cheeses, rice, pasta, and cous cous, all feature in dishes, that are good to eat, and good for your health
