Dubbed the Shropshire Hills Park and Ride, the Shropshire Hills Shuttles are a weekend and Bank Holiday bus service covering an area stretching from Pontesbury in the north to Church Stretton and Craven Arms in the east and south round to Clun and Bishop’s Castle in the west; covering parts of the designated Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Ideal for those wishing to relax and leave the driving to others, the Shuttles can be used for sightseeing; exploring local towns, villages and attractions; taking walks in the south Shropshire countryside or enjoying the hospitality at any number of pubs along the routes. All the buses are wheelchair accessible, but places need to be pre-booked, by phoning TESS on 01588 673888 during office hours Mon-Fri, to confirm availability on the day. There are three routes that interlink, and a family ‘Day Rover’ ticket is excellent value at just £10. Adult and Concession Rover tickets are £4 and £3. The ‘Rover’ allows travel all day on all 3 routes, with unlimited scope for hopping on and off at different stops. A single ticket can be as little as 50p for a short journey. For £1 you might like to join the bus at Carding Mill Valley in Church Stretton, a National Trust area with an Information Centre and shop, and travel to Shooting Box. There is then a shortish walk, well signed, back down into Carding Mill Valley. Or with a Rover ticket travel to the Stiperstones National Nature Reserve for a wheelchair friendly walk or a longer trek across the hills to meet with the bus at Snailbeach. The 2007 season runs from 7 April to 28 October inclusive and this year also includes three buses that will pick up at Meole Brace in Shrewsbury. For more details about the service and timetables see the website at www.shropshirehillsshuttles.co.uk. Countryside Explorer Shuttle bus service also covers the Bridgnorth, Stottesdon and Highley areas. Offering a wealth of places of interest to visit including the Severn Valley Railway, and Rays Farm at Billingsley, all without the need to navigate one’s own way around the countryside. This Shuttle bus runs at weekends and Bank Holidays from 7 April to 28 October inclusive. |
