Dudmaston Hall, near BridgnorthThe elegant country estate of Dudmaston with its late 17th century mansion and lakeside garden is brought to life with talks and events. The intimate family rooms in the south Shropshire house contain fine furniture and Dutch flower paintings, as well as a collection of historic costumes. Visitors can also discover the Labouchere collection - one of Britain’s most important public collections of contemporary paintings and sculpture in a country house setting. Dudmaston hosts a varied programme of events for its visitors, from guided walks of the estate to children’s craft activities. The arts are celebrated with lectures and workshops, and in summer, the gardens are alive with outdoor theatre and jazz evenings. The nine acres of gardens, which include the American Garden and Rockery Bank, are a glorious mass of colour in spring and summer and take on the seasonal hues of autumn. There are two estate walks of 5.5 and 4 miles both starting from the Hampton Loade car park, which is another 1.5 miles towards Kidderminster off the A442. The Hall is open on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 1 April to 30 September. For more details and event information ring Dudmaston Hall on 01746 780866. |
