![]() When you combine wonderful scenery, much of it owned by the National Trust, friendly accommodation, a 2 week Arts Festival, now in its 41st. year, combined with the largest Art and Crafts Exhibition in the County, Church Stretton is an unbeatable place for a holiday. Music is always important, and the Festival opens with the Chilingirian Quartet, one of the world’s top String Quartets. Next come the Warlock Ensemble, a Brass Quintet, whose players are all prize-winning recent R.A.M. graduates. The London Mozart Trio are another top of the range group, whilst the David Rees-Williams Trio offer an evening of Jacques Loussier style music, part Classical, part Jazz. The London Flute Quartet consists of 4 young female flautists playing a mix of Classical and lighter music. The last evening brings Classico Latino, a trio playing mainly South American music, on a foot-tapping lighter note to round off the Festival. Drama is not overlooked, with the Stagework Theatre Company performing “The Winter’s Tale.” Many West End actors have taken part in the Festival, and this year will see Anton Rogers and Elizabeth Garvie in “A Celebration of Jane Austen”, with musical accompaniment. Lovers of beautiful scenery are also well served, with Robin Jukes-Hughes Slide show “Shropshire’s Secret Hills” and Ian and Hilary Templeton offering “Pictures in Harmony”, stunning images with narration, set to music. Morning Coffee Concerts are also being held in the Parish Church, with a Sculpture Exhibition, Organ Recitals and a Song Recital in various venues in the Strettons.
