Brobury House

E-mail
ImageThe Brobury estate is five acres of delightfully varied terraced gardens surrounding an imposing Victorian House.  The gardens were originally laid out in the 1880s when the house was built.  The setting, on the banks of the River Wye by Bredwardine Bridge, was the perfect site for a terraced Victorian garden.

The magnificent trees which give the structure to the garden were part of the original design and provide a focal point for the gardens.

The introduction of water is more recent.  Three formal water features have been woven into the original terraces.  A natural pond has been established at the bottom of the orchard and, from this, informal paths follow a stream through the woodland, with architectural planting leading finally to the two-acre watermeadow beyond.

B&B is available in the main house, while in the grounds Rose and Lilac Holiday cottages provide an idyllic rural retreat.

 How Stean Gorge

 Sample Image

How Stean is a spectacular limestone gorge, situated in an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty,  in the very heart of Nidderdale among lush green pastures. Known as 'Yorkshire's Little Switzerland'  to the Victorians, the Gorge is crossed by narrow bridges between the rocky paths that lead down and across the rock face. The scenery is breathtaking, and the beck that runs through the Gorge can be anything from a gentle stream to a raging gushing torrent - depending on the rainfall and time of year.
