While a herd of suckler cows and a small flock of sheep have kept us busy on the farming side, the riding and trekking centre has been very much our main business and horses our first love! When a fire destroyed the old stables in 1978 we were encouraged to diversify further - and so the self-catering venture began. We have since added to the original conversions and now have four different sized units. The wealth of attractions and activities in the surrounding area make this part of the National Park an ideal choice for any visitor. But whatever the reason for visiting the verdict on the scenery is always the same - stunning!
Trekking What better way to explore this lesser known area of the Peak District National Park than from the back of a horse? The rides, mostly 2 hours in length follow the old pack horse trails to such beauty spots as Three Shires Head, where the 3 county boundaries meet, (Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire). Whilst the longer rides will take you to the old market village of Longnor, now perhaps better known as Cardale from TV's Peak Practice or up over the moors for lunch at the Cat and Fiddle Inn.
Two-day trail ride All trail rides are accompanied with either one or two guides, numbers on the rides vary, usually between 4 and 8 The two-day trail ride comprises two days of riding through the beautiful Derbyshire dales, taking in the Chatsworth and Haddon Hall estates and High Peak trails. There is overnight accommodation at a guest-house in Bakewell, with breakfast included.
Self Catering Accommodation High in the hills of the Staffordshire Moorlands, we are situated on the edge of Flash, highest village in England, yet just a few 100 yards off the A53 we are easily accessible.
An ideal base from which to explore the Peaks, Potteries and Plains of Cheshire. There is a total of 18 bed spaces plus bed-settees which makes us a great location for groups of families and friends to meet up for short or long breaks. Most of the double rooms have 'zip-link' beds that can either be two singles or a super king-size double. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the Apartment or the Ground Floor Old Stables, although they must not be left unaccompanied in the accommodation. A stable is usually available if owners wish to leave their dogs whilst they go out. Visitors should be aware that we do have dogs of our own on the farm.
