Castleton Information Centre and Museum

E-mail

ImageOn the 2nd April 2004, Castleton's new state-of-the-art information centre was opened to the public. The plans were drawn up following consultations with the local community and provides extensive community facilities. A museum has been incorporated into the building, which the Castleton Historical Society uses to feature a range of exhibitions, about village life through the ages. The community meeting room is available free, for the use of local people.

The exhibition at the one million pound centre is superb, and fully does justice to one of the most beautiful villages in the country. The pot holing and climbing displays enable the visitor to get so close to the action, as to feel as if they are actually present.

Castleton Centre is open between 10am and 5pm every day of the year, apart from Christmas Day. The latest computer equipment has been installed, ensuring that information about the Peak District is readily available at the touch of a button. An on-line system can instantly book accommodation throughout the country.

Apart from information about Peak District attractions, activities, events and accommodation, the Castleton Centre also sells a wide range of other products to assist the visitor. These include books, maps, guides, clothing, toys and gifts.

Whatever the weather Castleton, frequently referred to, as the gem of the Peak, is a delightful place to visit. Its cluster of old stone cottages and narrow lanes invite exploration. The sparkling little stream leading to Peak Cavern takes you through the oldest part of Castleton. Along the main street are a large variety of gift shops, cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes and towering above the village is Peveril Castle.

DISCOVER DERBYSHIRE AND THE PEAK DISTRICT

This non-commercial web site is the first web site I have ever constructed. It is a personal web site and is not representative of any commercial, or non-commercial organisation. It is based on the Discover Derbyshire Supplements published by the Derby Evening Telegraph that I have written. The supplements contain features of towns and villages, with countryside walks and heritage trails.

Many additional features are being added of interest to the visitor and local person alike. The objective is to promote Derbyshire and the Peak District from information available in the public domain and my own experiences. Feedback from visitors to this site is welcomed.
