Bolsover Castle

E-mail

copyright English HeritageBuilt on a site of the Norman fortress, this 17th century house is a wonderful place to meander and muse.  Despite its embattled appearance, the Castle was designed not for defence but for elegant living.  You can experience beautiful views of surrounding countryside from the ramparts of the Castle.  Also, there are enormous stables, some of the oldest in Europe, evoking a magical era of ‘haute ecole’ style of training horses.

As a retreat to an imaginary golden age of chivalry and pleasure, the ‘Little Castle’ to this day catches the imagination of visitors.  Pop in to recently restored Venus Garden, have lunch in the family restaurant or bring your own picnic.  A magical family experience.
