Holiday Cottages at New Cwm Farm

In a peaceful secluded yet easily accessible location in the Welsh Marches, New Cwm Farm dates back to 1810. The old stone cottage has been sympathetically restored and modernised to provide two cosy and comfortable self-catering 4 star cottage ‘studio’ apartments, both with stunning views over forestry and pastures. There is also a delightful garden in which to relax.

We are open all year round and prices start at just £160 per week. For further information on each cottage or to make a booking enquiry please click here .

Both cottages have full central heating with electricity, duvets, bed linen and towels all included in the price. Fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, digital TV with Freesat, Wi-Fi facility and terrace with patio furniture and a stone BBQ.

Visit Wales has awarded us both “Walkers Welcome” and “Cyclists Welcome” gradings. This means we offer facilities especially tailored to outdoor people’s needs, such as a drying room, secure storage for bicycles, etc. Groceries can be delivered prior to your arrival, and “breakfast in a basket” can be provided, as well as packed lunches.

Richard and Nancy Adams

Richard Adams is a local man, the son of a local farmer. He worked on the family farm until his father retired through ill health.

He cannot remember learning to ride – it came to him as a young child as naturally as walking.

As a naturally gifted horseman with a great love of horses, Richard uses sensible training methods. He can assess any animal quickly and has evolved his own method of “getting a horse to talk to him”. It takes a minimum of six weeks to break in a horse and have it going kindly, and it might take up to ten weeks for some animals.

Having assessed a horse, Richard takes it along at its own pace, gently asking for more and more, and combining this with building up the horse’s confidence. A valuable part of the training is going out on hound exercise with the local pack. It teaches the horse to cope with unexpected experiences, and importantly, socialising skills. New Cwm and The Anchorage are on the borders of the United Pack, the Teme Valley, and the David Davies Hunts.

Horses and ponies can be broken in to ride, and/or drive in a trap, dog cart or sulky. Richard has broken in Shetlands and Shires, and everything in between, hunters and hacks, ponies and pacers, laid back cobs and nervous thoroughbreds.

All Richard’s horses have nice mouths, go forward willingly, and stop politely when asked. He also trains trotters and pacers competing with the Wales and Border Counties Harness Racing, of which he is a long term member. Trotting meetings are held locally and are well worth attending – an exciting day out!

Richard charges £85 per week + VAT per horse for breaking/training.

Liveries also taken, prices on application.

Occasionally we have horses for sale – watch this space!
